A Hairy Situation

It's time to get down to an important issue around here - What should I do with Zoe's hair? It is really really ridiculously long. Do I cut it? If I do, how much should I take off? Or should I just leave it alone? I really don't have enough brain cells left to make this decision, so I'm relying on all of you in Blogger-land to weigh in. Please vote in the poll on the side and tell us your opinion. And if you have any experience cutting children's hair, give me some tips. Keep in mind that Zoe doesn't watch movies, cartoons, or television of any sort, so keeping her still for longer than 30 seconds will be my main issue (aside from the fact that I have no idea what I'm doing).

To give you some reference on the hair issue at hand, here are some pictures I had taken of her in an actual studio a month ago. I meant to do it closer to her birthday but, uh, I didn't. And if I had known they would ask me to be in the shot I probably would have done my hair. Maybe.

In other hair-related news, here is Zoe's prayer as I was doing her hair for church Sunday morning:

Dear Heavenly Father
Thank you for the day
Thank you for church
Thank you for hair
Thank you for nap
Amen

Other things that she has been thankful for recently: Mommy and Daddy, Zoe and Baby, Grandma, Stories, and Family. Could she be any cuter?

Hair is beautiful, yes, but Zoe won't remember...Or are mommy & daddy attached? Ok, maybe it is b/c I have a boy and we cut it all the time...but a good, sizeable trim, won't hurt any one...and she'll probably look even more cute! As for cutting ideas: sting a bunch of sugar coated cereal (fruit loops or something like that) onto yarn for you to wear as a necklace...she can eat it off while you cut.

If I had girls, I would never cut their hair. I just don't want to have to deal with all of the stress and crying (on their part or mine). My vote? Keep it long.

Those pictures are beautiful, by the way.

I love the last picture of the two of you together. As for the hair, I think a nice cut would look really cute. You might as well try some different cuts out before she is reliant on long hair. Just make sure it is long enough to pull back in a ponytail. Somedays it just needs to go back.

I have no qualms trimming my girls hair by myself. I even had to do some "layering" a time or two (when Jordan got a hold of the scissors and cut her hair heself). Just make sure you have good quality scissors, and remember: hair grows back! Truthfully, we've never really had their hair "short"... a personal preference.
A little trim is all I'd do for now...it always ends up shorter than you'd meant it to anyway!

Really cute pictures! I don't think anyone but you would know that you're hair wasn't done in that picture. That's so sweet! Where did you take them at?

WAY cute pictures. I would trim it a few inches if I were you, even just to find out if you like it shoulder length or so. Like fern said, it always grows back!

I cut Emma's bangs recently (post forthcoming) and she just sat on the bathroom counter looking at herself in the mirror while brushing her teeth. Maybe you could even let her play with something that you usually don't let her play with. Long hair is pretty easy to trim, especially if you're not doing layers.

Emma loves her long hair. She is a pretty good sport about brushing and things. We just have to remember to wash it like every other day or so. I am kind of attached to her hair since mine doesn't every grow. But she likes the long hair and all the fun things we do with it.

I love the pic of you and Zoe. that is so cute!! I love her little prayer. As the hair goes I never cut Alyssa's,for the first time, until she was almost four. It was long overdue and I just gave her a trim so her hair was all one length. But that is because Brandon loves long hair and won't let me cut it any shorter.

Emily's hair was always long until she was about 3. Then we cut just below her chin and it was adorable. I was so nervous, but we both loved it, and it's pretty much been short ever since. I think short is cute. We can still do small pony tails and have clips or braids. It feels fuller.
As far as cutting it, I would give her a sucker to sit still (although hair sticking to it was never fun...)
I know it'll be darling whatever you decide. Those photos are adorable!

You definitely should have it cut. . .you know how us girls hate it when we can't get a fresh, "new" look! Try and find someone in your neighborhood that cuts hair. . .that's what we did and Michelle loved the feeling of our friends fingers through her hair that she didn't even move! Plus, if you have someone do it who is experienced, it will take them minutes instead of way longer. Michelle's cut only took 5 min.

I had the same dilemma with Kate's hair recently and then I was so glad I trimmed it. I don't cringe when I look at it now. I know it's hard to let go of the baby hair though.

More importantly, tell me more about the no tv thing. Has she ever watched tv? Is it by her choice or your choice? Did you read about how tv was bad for brains and you want her to be super smart? I limit my kids screen time, but I feel like I'm in the minority.

Keep it long! There's plenty of time for short hair later.

That prayer is so cute! I can't believe how well she can talk. What an amazing little girl. I think she would look cute with short hair! I'm sure it's hard to decide though b/c I have a really hard time cutting Jay's hair and he's a boy!
