Resistance is Futile!

Yet again, we have a 2-year-old. Owen is a handful. He LOVES LOVES LOVES all things Thomas the tank engine so for his birthday we went all Thomas - cake, tablecloth, plates, a take along play set, several trains, pajamas, and a book and talking Thomas toy from friends. And when I say he "loves" Thomas, I really mean he is completely obsessed - he knows all the different trains' names, he loves the shows and asks to watch them all day. Now that he has the trains, he carries them everywhere he goes. From the moment he started taking an interest in Thomas I swore I wouldn't buy in to all the paraphernalia, but I just couldn't resist. I have never seen him so attached to anything. Here are the pictures from the party, with more details at the end for those who care to know.

Owen is awesome. He is still small - 1st percentile for weight! - but sturdy. He goes and goes and goes all day (except for his daily 3-hour nap) and is usually in a great mood. He loves Zoe and the kitty and playing outside. He talks all the time and is a great communicator. We love having him around.

He definitely has me wrapped around his finger and probably gets away with more than he should. But he's my baby. He loves giving hugs, kisses, high-fives, and fist bumps. He's a great eater and would drink his weight in juice every day if I let him. He loves nursery and playing with his friends. He is turning into such a big kid. We love you Owen!

Where does the time go?

More to come after I'm finished catching up on the rest of the posts. But for now, Happy Birthday Owen!

You're #1!

It's Owen's birthday! Can you believe it? We sure can't. His entrance into this world was dramatic (and fairly traumatic) and he has kept us on our toes ever since.

He loves to smile, laugh and eat. He is the biggest wiggle worm and is constantly on the go. He has been walking a lot the past few days, which makes him very proud of himself. He loves to snuggle (head butt) and give kisses (open-mouthed head butts). He eats EVERYTHING, even the things he's not supposed to. He is a button pusher - literally and otherwise. He is a screamer - for fun and otherwise (like when food is not in his mouth). We just absolutely, all-around adore our Buddy! Happy Birthday!

The Blessing

We are blessing Owen in church this Sunday at 9am. Anyone who would like to come is invited. You are especially invited if you fall into the category of worthy priesthood holder. Otherwise our circle might be more of a triangle. Contact us if you need more details.

2 Months

Wow, Owen had his 2-month checkup yesterday. Time is just going so fast. So here are the stats - 10 pounds 8 ounces (that's a 4-lb gain) and 23 inches (he's grown 2 inches). What a monster! The pictures are from a couple weeks ago, but you get the idea. He's dang cute and getting bigger every day.

He has been smiling lately and gives us the biggest grins. He is also sleeping better at night and only wakes up 3 times to feed. But the first time is at 11 so I am usually still up and my sleep is only interrupted twice a night. So we are starting to feel more normal, yet still adequately tired. The computer is back and for a few days our office is vacant of guests so I'm going to try and get on top of posting. No promises.

Umm....

So, like, I have, like 5 weeks until my due date! Isn't that crazy? This pregnancy has really just flown by. We are so excited for Owen to come and join our family. Zoe talks about him every day and loves to touch my tummy. Sometimes she lifts up her shirt and shows us "Zoe's baby Owen" so I don't think she quite grasps what is going on, but it's dang cute.

Anyway, I thought I'd take a couple minutes and document this pregnancy for my own sake. I have such easy pregnancies and I am so blessed. I have been way more tired this time around, but that's probably due to the fact that I chase a 2-year-old up and down the stairs all day. A few weeks ago I was having a tough time because Owen was getting a little too strong. His kicks were literally hurting me (anyone read Breaking Dawn? A few parts really hit close to home). I'm sure some people at the grocery store thought I was going to go into labor in the middle of the aisle as I was constantly stopping and wincing in pain from this little "nudger." Plus he was mostly kicking in the same spot so I was sore. Besides being strong, he is pretty persistent. He picks a spot to stretch or push against and won't give it up for a while. It was getting really uncomfortable for a couple weeks. Luckily, it seems like he has grown enough that he can't get as much momentum behind his punches or that he's settled into a position where they don't bother me as much. Either way I'm happier.

As anxious as I am about handling 2 kids and all that that entails, I am really excited to have Owen here. I feel so prepared in some ways and yet I know I'll be taken completely by surprise when he comes. I feel like such a different person than I was when I had Zoe - much more patient and relaxed, but less organized and "on top of things." Oh well, it's probably a healthier trade off for the whole family.

The next 5 weeks will be packed with so much change around here as Summer draws to an end, we get back into the routine of James going to school, and we tie up the many loose ends we have to take care of before Owen comes. I am so excited to share it with all of you and if you have any advice about the whole "more than one kid" situation (or just having a BOY for that matter) I'd love to hear it.
